General information for exchange students

Academic calendar

Semester I: 1st week of April - last week of July
Semester II: 4th week of September - 1st week of February

Orientation generally commences early April for Semester I and late September for Semester II.

Exams take place late July for Semester I and late January for Semester II.

Academic Calendar

Please note: Waseda University issues their transcripts of records in October for students who attend an exchange there in semester 2. This may affect your expected date of graduation in case your exchange takes place during the final semester of your studies.

Requirements

GPA (Average Grade)

You need to fulfil this requirement at the time of application at UU.

Language Requirement

After selection by Utrecht University, you will have to fulfill the language requirements: Most faculties require a certificate from a test accepted by Waseda

Housing assistance

Residence during the exchange program:

Waseda University provides special dormitories for students on the exchange program: the Waseda University International Student House, Waseda Hoshien, and Nishi-Waseda International Student House, which are within walking distance of Waseda, Toyama and Nishi-Waseda campus, respectively. Some students choose to stay in private apartments or with home stay families. 

Regarding the special dormitories for exchange students, the Center for International Education assigns rooms based on students’ applications. Please note that assignment is on a first come, first served basis and the number of rooms is limited.

Estimated living costs per month

Living costs differ depending on the individual life style, but the average monthly cost is 80,000 yen for housing, and 80,000 yen for living expenses (food, transportation and daily necessities). This is around 1,100 EUR. (Estimate from 2022).
