Daylight lamps at the UU

Do you recognise the feeling of feeling blue in autumn, having less energy or sleeping worse? Every year, more than 500,000 people in the Netherlands experience this! The cause is a lack of daylight during this period. This is because daylight plays a crucial role in the production of the hormones melatonin and serotonin in the body. With a daylight lamp, you stimulate the production of these essential hormones, which contributes to your mental health, energy, focus and sleep. Ideal for those dark days!

With a daylight lamp, you create light that is comparable to real daylight. Daylight (or indirect sunlight) has a value of between 10,000 - 15,000 lux. For comparison: in a well-lit office you get around 500 lux, while in a house the maximum is often 250 lux. The daylight lamp has a value of as much as 12,000 lux!

The lamps can be used at student services (Heidelberglaan 6, UU4U) during opening hours (Mon-Thu 10:00 to 13:00h) by both students and staff. Simply ask at the desk for a lamp, hand in an ID card/driving license/campus card and find a nice spot in the room. After using it, return the lamp and get your card back. You set the timer yourself and decide how often you want to visit.
