Getting to know (the) Dutch

Oude gracht Utrecht

As admitted students of Utrecht University, you are entitled to a free Dutch language entry level course provided by the University. The course is called Getting to know (the) Dutch!

About the course

This entry level course is designed to give you an idea of what it’s like to be an international student in the Netherlands and will run you through the basic vocabulary needed to survive during your time here, such as navigating the transport system, locating where to buy your groceries and other items, and how to find your way around the city on a bicycle.

You will learn enough Dutch to impress the locals and also gain an idea of what student life in Utrecht is like. You will familiarize yourself with the best places to see, eat, drink, and hang out – all before you arrive in The Netherlands.

On average, our students give the course a 4.3 out of 5, and those who previously took it said that because of the variety of learning methods used, and the fun way it was taught, they found it much easier to pick up the basic vocabulary than they’d thought it would be. Others commented that it was especially useful in helping them feel more at home in Utrecht when they first moved here.
