Situation

The campus is located some 10 km from the center of Kingston, the capital of Jamaica which has around a million inhabitants. Kingston has high crime rates and gang violence, meaning that some areas should be avoided by tourists. There are museums and nature destinations near the campus, including beaches, snorkeling, etcetera. Click here for an impression and here for general tourist information for Jamaica.

Kingston has a tropical climate. The temperature is around 30 degrees year round. There is a rainy season from May until November. This coincides with the hurricane season.

Student life

The campus has facilities such as a book store, restaurants, a health center, a swimming pool, travel service, a super market, and a shuttle service to take you around and from the campus. There are also various sports facilities and teams, as well as social and cultural clubs and societies managed by the Guild of Students. These also organize parades and festivals on campus.

The campus is a large, historical complex. You can even book tours of the campus. There is also 24 hour security on campus. There are about 19,000 students at Mona.

Student experiences

The University of West Indies is a new destination, and therefore we have not received feedback from our students yet. Be the first UCU student to explore Mona!
