Although the calendar year is divided into three terms, two terms are equivalent to one full academic year. Exchange/Study Abroad students may attend SFU for one or two of the following:

Fall term (early September – mid December)
Spring term (early January – mid April)
Summer term (early May - mid August)

Areas open to exchange students

Language Requirements

Carefully read the information under the 'Proof of English Language Proficiency' heading on the Application Process webpage

Requirements

SFU does not have a minimum GPA requirement for inbound exchange students.

Courses at Master's level

Yes, but there are limitations and uncertainties: do read this webpage about graduate students carefully.

Simon Fraser can accept graduate students from Utrecht, though we must note that most graduate students study at the undergraduate level while on exchange at SFU (especially when they are in the 1st year of their Masters degree, ie their 4th year of university study). If students wish to take graduate level courses, their application will need to be reviewed by the academic unit. The webpage for Graduate Students linked above outlines the various considerations and processes for grad students.

If you wish to take courses at graduate level, please contact the UU’s international office of the faculty of humanities well in advance of the application deadline to inquire about the possibilities.

The university offers on-campus accommodation: places in residence are offered on a first-come-first-serve basis, so we encourage students to apply early. Students who wish to live off-campus or are not offered a place in on-campus residence, should see this webpage for information on off-campus housing
