Academic calendar

More Information

Students may only attend for 1 semester of a full academic year (NOT 1 or 2 terms).

Requirements

GPA 3.0 - UU students with a grade average of 6,5 or higher will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English language:

At least IELTS 6.5, with 5.5 in each component. The test results must be no more than 2 years old.

Read more about the English requirements at their website. Read more about other tests (TOEFL, Cambridge, etc.) and qualifications on this website. Scroll down to country specific qualifications, for qualifications such as your English grade obtained at VWO level.

Please note the English requirements for obtaining a visa as well:

  • Standard Visitor (students coming for one semester)
Standard Visitors only planning to take courses within the subject area of their Erasmus exchange agreement and any other 1st / 2nd year level courses do not need to provide evidence of their English level in order to obtain a visa (you still need to fulfil the requirements of Leicester, in order to be able to study there). Though the expectation is that nominated students will have B2 Level English.
You need to provide an English certificate C1 if you want to take 3rd/4th year level courses outside of the subject area of the Erasmus agreement (Law), or if a visa is required to study in the UK.

  • Student Route Visa (students coming for the full academic year)

If you are coming into the UK on a Student Route visa then as part of the immigration process you will need to provide evidence of English level that meets the minimum entry requirements. You will need to provide a certificate from one of the following exams: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge CAE/CPE or Trinity ISE which meets our minimum entry scores listed here. The English language certificate must be no more than two years old at the start date of your studies. Note that these requirements may be lower than Leicester's own requirements, you still need to fulfil the latter in order to study there.

Students who are of a nationality outside of Europe will be required to provide a proof of an official English Language certificate.

Incoming students are expected to be of good academic standing. Students must check the module options and restrictions and check compatibility with their own curriculum prior to submitting their application.

Locations
Halls are grouped as either Oadby Student Village (OSV) or City Living. The OSV is approximately a 40 minute walk from the main campus, so
many students choose to buy a bus pass. Shops and a supermarket are nearby, and students can enjoy the University’s botanical garden. City
Living halls are approximately a 10 minute walk from the main campus. All halls offer social events for students throughout the year.

Room Applications
Applications can be made through the accommodation portal. A deposit of £250 is required to
secure the booking. Be sure to apply for the contract length that matches your study offer dates.
Accommodation is guaranteed for students who apply before the deadline (1 September for Semester 1/Full Year students and 7 December for
Semester 2 students).

Costs

Leicester is consistently rated one of the most affordable places in the UK. How much each student spends will depend on their choices.
Please see here for details on how to estimate living costs during your studies. Please note that as an exchange student you are bound to an exchange agreement and thus, you do not have to pay tuition fees at Leicester University.

Surveys by HSBC (14/15) have found that the University of Leicester is the most affordable place for undergraduate students in the UK.

How much a student spends will depend on their choices, however we estimate that students should budget approx. Eur. 880,- per month for a student lifestyle to cover accommodation, lighting, heating, food and personal expenses (*2017)

The British Universities Transnational Exchange (BUTEX) is offering a scholarship opportunity which students can apply to.
