Honours track: U-TEAch

U-TEAch (Utrecht Teacher Education Academy) is a selective honours track which provides extra enrichment to the regular Teacher Education at Utrecht University.

We offer U-TEAch in partnership with various international and bilingual schools (tto) in the Netherlands and abroad, creating a perfect combination of theory and practice. You will be taught and coached by a team of experienced teachers at our partner schools and teacher educators. This combination of work and study means that you have the opportunity to immediately practice what you learn in class in a classroom environment.

Study programme

Students of the educational Master’s programmes 'Educatie & Communicatie', follow subject-specific mandatory courses and electives during the first year of the programme. They take their U-TEAch courses during the second year.

See below for the complete U-TEAch-study schedule:

First year: subject-specific mandatory courses and electives

During the first year of the programme, you choose subject-specific electives besides the mandatory courses. You can find the subject-specific electives (Vakspecifieke keuzecursussen) on the Keuzecursussen page.

Second year: U-TEAch programme

In addition to the required modules of the teacher training programme, U-TEAch offers you three integrated courses: Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), International and Cross Cultural Education (ICE) and Internationalise Your Classroom (IYC). See below for a further course overview of the second year (U-TEAch part) of the programme.

Internships

As a pre-service student you will be placed at a (partner)school by our Internship Office. More information on the different internships (PiP1 and PiP2) can be found below. Besides you can find more information on registering and financing your internship abroad. Please note that arranging your own internship is not allowed.

Do you have any questions? Please contact the Internship Office at stagebureau.gst@uu.nl.

In-service students

Students who do already have a job as a teacher can choose to do the in-service variant. This means that instead of doing an internship provided to you by the internship office, you continue to work at your own school while doing U-TEAch. As an in-service student, the internship abroad is not mandatory. However, you do have the possibility to go abroad for a short period of time if your job allows it.

Career opportunities

The course leads to a Dutch first-degree teaching certificate which fully qualifies you to teach at Dutch schools in your school subject. In addition to the first-degree teaching certificate, you will receive a U-TEAch honours certificate to provide evidence that you have specialized in international and bilingual teaching.
