Academic calendar

Semester I: 2nd week of February - 3rd week of June
Semester II: 3rd week of July - last week of November
Orientation generally commences the 2nd week of February for Semester I and the 3rd week of July Semester II. Exams take place in the 2nd and 3rd week of June for Semester I and in the 3rd and 4th week of November for Semester II.

Requirements

GPA (Average Grade)

The GPA requirement at this university is 3.0. This is comparable to an average grade 7.0 or above at Utrecht University.
You must meet the GPA requirement at the moment of application at Utrecht University (1st of December)

English Language Requirement

A grade of 8 or higher in final year English VWO or
An IELTS , TOEFL iBT* or Cambridge test
*only valid if taken after May 5th 2024

Students enrolled in a fully English taught Bachelor or Master programme (for example UCU), can provide a letter attesting to the fact that their degree is taught and assessed entirely in English. 
The language requirements must be met at the moment of application to the host university.

Areas of study open to exchange students

You can choose units that are related to your degree at home or units that are different, as long as you meet the academic requirements and prerequisites for each unit.

Courses at Master’s level

Psychology, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physiotherapy and Veterinary Science are not open to exchange students at master level.

Housing assistance

The University of Sydney offers their students guaranteed accommodation within a 15 minute walk to campus. There's options to live on or off campus. Housing on-campus is not guaranteed and difficult to get in to. Early application for housing is therefore necessary.

Estimated living costs per month

Estimated living costs are between 2,500 AUD and 3,000 AUD a month for Sydney, depending on your lifestyle. You can calculate a personalized estimate based on your lifestyle preferences using this tool. For a semester exchange including wanting to travel, a budget of 15000 EUR on average is realistic, this is based on budgets of exchange students from previous year and includes UU tuition fees. Be aware that the visa fee increased to around 1100 EUR (currency rates may fluctuate).
