There is no GPA requirement for this destination.

Language Requirement

German B1 and/or English B2.

Knowledge of German language is required. There is no need to show evidence of a German exam, but taking an exam is always recommended.

Housing assistance

Housing is not guaranteed. There is a wide range of reasonably-priced flats and rooms in Basel. Information and assistance can be obtained from the university or the Student Housing Organisation.

Estimated living costs per month

The cost of living vary greatly depending on personal circumstances and individual requirements. The following figures should therefore be regarded as guidelines:

- Housing: 550-750 CHF

- Food: 400 CHF

- Education costs (books, copies, scripts): 150 CHF

- Miscellaneous: 200-300 CHF

Average living costs per month are around 1300-1600 CHF, which is approximately the same in euros.

 

Grants

Please note that students studying in Switzerland cannot apply for the Erasmus grant but can instead apply for the Swiss European Mobility Programme for financial support. The grant amount will be within the margins of the EU grant and equivalent to the Erasmus grant

Credits

The credit points awarded at the University of Basel are equivalent to ECTS, based on student workload. The marking scale of the grading system used at the University of Basel ranges from 1 (fail) to 6 (excellent), with passing grade 4.

It may be a challenge to reach 30 EC during an exchange at Universität Basel. Most courses are worth 3 EC each so students are advised to take 20 EC instead of 30.
