Academic calendar

Autumn Semester I: October-February*
Spring Semester II: April-July**

* In some disciplines there will still be exams until the beginning of March

Please note that there is some semester overlap with the UU academic calendar, especially in the first semester. Please take this into consideration when planning your exchange.

Students should also participate in the intensive German language courses. For semester I, these take place during the entire month of September. For semester II, they take place during the entire month of March.

Requirements

Language Requirement

A minimum CEFR language level of:

  • B2 in German, depending on the department. For further information, click here

  • B1 for courses taught in English

Areas of study open to UU students

All areas are open, except: Dentistry, Pharmacy and MBAs.

For Medicine: applications will be considered upon prior consultation with the department.

Language of instruction

The main language of instruction is German. But you will find also courses in English in the faculties.

Housing assistance

The University of Würzburg has a special arrangement with the Student Housing Service of the "Studierendenwerk Wurzburg", an independent organisation that is not connected to the university. If exchange programme students from our partner universities apply for a room in a dormitory and transfer the housing deposit (€ 1000) by the official application deadline, accommodation will be guaranteed! The Student Housing Service is responsible for ten dormitories in various locations in Würzburg.

Estimated living costs per month

Costs of living: approx. € 900 - 1000 / month (depending on your lifestyle and apartment rent).

Please note that universities in Germany charge a semester fee which covers your student ID and a semester ticket for public transcript. The semester fee is €162,90 in 24/25.

Credits

Most courses are worth 5 EC, so you would take 6 courses in total in order to obtain 30 EC.
