Lisbon is a populair city and the demand is high therefor it would be a good idea to anticipate the time and effort it may take you to find a room, and start your search well in advance, even prior to your exchange to see and check housing.
This way you can see the flats, negotiate the rent and talk with the landlord before committing to a permanent house. As a reference, a 3 bedroom apartment in Lisbon can range from 800€ to 1200€ per month and a room in a shared flat may vary from 300€ to 600€, depending on the quality, size and location.
