The Tsukuba academic year starts in April.
Their semesters are different from those at Utrecht University!
Check carefully when the final exams are planned - to make sure you can obtain credits. 


Spring semester: April - September
Fall semester: October - March

NB: make sure that you do not enter Japan before the entry date determined by Tsukuba University.
(Only book tickets after you have received that specific date!)

Language of instruction: English/Japanese

Proof of language requirements: for UU students English VWO diploma grade list

Only courses at the School of Social and International Studies which contains two programmes: 

College of Social Sciences

College of International Studies

TISS (English Progamme)

Courses taught in English: see at School of Life and Environmental Sciences and Interdisciplinary Program in Life and Environmental Sciences

Limited to no offer in English-taught law courses.

Courses at Master level

Estimated living costs per month

An 'exchange fee' is required (about 90,- Euros per credit).

Campus housing: between 95 and 220 euros per month.

Off campus housing: between 180 and 300 euros per month.

Other expenses such as food, transportation and daily expenses: around 500 euros per month.

More information about an option for a (governmental)  scholarship for international students in Japan.
Requirement for this scholarship:
- students must start the study-in-Japan program at the Japanese school within the period designated by the Japanese school(from April 1 to March 31)
- A minimum stay of 6 months is required

COVID-19

The Japanese government currently allows new entries from overseas on a conditional basis, and specifies the requirement for arrival PCR test and self-quarantine (isolation) depending on the country/region. Check whether or not you need a PCR test and self-quarantine at the website of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
