Academic calendar

Semester I: mid August – end of December
Semester II: early January – end of June

Orientation generally commences in the 2nd week of August for Semester I and in the 1st week of January for Semester II.

Exams take place in November/December for Semester I and in May/June for Semester II.

Please not that there is semester overlap at the start of the second semester.

Requirements

B2 English: no certificate required, except for students within English language and literature (C1).

Areas of study open to exchange students

All fields. However, Biology and Geosciences are excluded from the sciences agreement. The following subject areas are not open for exchange students: Medicine, Dentistry, Fine Art, Design and Music Performance/Composition. You are expected to take all of your courses at the faculty at which you are nominated.

Language of instruction

English and Norwegian. UiB offers a large number of courses taught in English for exchange students. You can apply for courses taught in Norwegian if you are proficient in one of the Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish)

A Norwegian language course is available for all exchange students

Housing assistance

All UiB international students have the benefit of guaranteed housing provided that you apply from abroad and are attending UiB for one semester or longer. Read more

Average living costs are around 1160 EUR per month (subject to currency exchange rates).

Normal study load per term in credits: 30 ECTS. Courses are worth 5, 10 or 15 credits each. 

Grading system: A – F
Minimum pass: E

8 all fields + 6 humanities + 6 sciences
