Language of instruction

Primarily Spanish, very limited English-taught courses available.

Requirements

Due to the limited supply of courses in English, a whole study period solely in English is unfeasible. It's obligatory to matriculate a minimum of 25% of the student´s total credits in subjects that are taught in Spanish.

Although sometimes some English-taught courses seem to be offered, you will have to be prepared to follow mainly Spanish-taught courses. The reason for this is that the English taught courses are often full or not available when you try to register for them. Hence, if your level of Spanish is not sufficient, you might not be able to reach the minimum required amount of ECTS (also for the Erasmus+ grant!)

Language requirement: a minimum language level of B1 (CEFR) in Spanish. Students can hand in the following documents at the time of their Utrecht University Study Abroad application:

  • Language certificate from a recognised language school
  • Letter by (high school) Spanish teacher attesting your Spanish level
  • Babel free language level test results

At the time of application to UAM students are also required to provide proof of at least a B1 level Spanish. This can be done through the following documents:

  • Official certificate (DELE, SIELE, TELC, CLES...)
  • Test results/certificate from the language service of the home university or another language institution.
  • OLS online Course results with at least a B1 level

The International Exchange Office highly recommends a B2 level at the moment of exchange in order to fully participate in courses.

Spanish language courses taken will not be part of the transcript of records issued by the Faculty of Law (so credits cannot be submitted in Utrecht).
