Please note that there will be an International Student Orientation one to two weeks before the semester starts to introduce the UGM environment and facilities to the students.

(Language) requirements

GPA requirement: Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.

 

Regarding Language Proficiency, one of the following scores is required:
TOEFL: 550 (paper-based);
IELTS: no less than 5.5;
iBT: minimum 70

*Exception: If you have a Dutch VWO Diploma and passed your English course, the international office can issue you a Language Proficiency Letter to validate your English level. 

Areas of study open for exchange students

Students can participate in courses of the International Undergraduate Programme in Communications.

 

Students can only enrol in one major or program during the admission process.

  • Cross-faculty course registration is permitted, but students should primarily focus on courses within their main major or program.
  • Cross-level course registration is not allowed.
  • Programs in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences are taught in a mix of English and Indonesian, with Indonesian being the primary language of instruction.

Housing

It is not compulsory for a student to live in a campus boarding house, but UGM provides some options of a shared-room boarding house around campus. If the student is willing to live outside the UGM boarding house, there are many affordable private boarding houses nearby.

Estimated living costs per month

Living cost in Yogyakarta is relatively cheaper than other big cities is Indonesia. A student may expend IDR 2.000.000 - 3.500.000 per month (approximately USD 100 - 200 month) for meals, clothing, and daily expenses; exclude housing expenses. 

Credits

Each course at UGM is typically worth 3 credits, which is the equivalent of 7,5 hours of work or around 3,75 ECTS credits. A full time programme at UGM consists of 24 credits per semester.
