Language of instruction

English. Bilkent University is an English medium University. Therefore, applicants are required to provide a proof of their proficiency in English by presenting a letter issued by their home University International Exchange Office indicating that they can follow the courses in English. You have to submit proof of this language proficiency upon your application at the host university.

Bilkent offers free on-campus accomodation for incoming exchange students.

Subject to availability, this offer is valid for double rooms at Bilkent’s student dormitories. Students areexpected to file their requests before the relevant deadline. Allocations are on first-come-first-service basis.Room type may differ based on availability.

Grading system

Bilkent University's official grading system uses letter grades with pluses and minuses. Passing grades range from A+ to D; F, FX is failing. The quality-point equivalents of the grades are:

A+ 4.00B+ 3.30C+ 2.30D+ 1.30F    0.00
A   4.00B   3.00C   2.00D   1.00FX 0.00
A- 3.70B- 2.70C- 1.70  

Other grades used are S (Satisfactory), U (Unsatisfactory), I (Incomplete), P (In Progress), T (Transfer), and W (Withdraw). These grades do not have quality-point equivalents.

Visa and Residence Permit

You will need a "student visa" to enter Turkey. Please make sure that you apply for the student visa at the Turkish Consulate in your country as soon as you receive your acceptance letter. Make travel arrangements accordingly, so that you will allow adequate time for your visa to be processed prior to your departure.

You are required to apply for a residence permit in person within a month of your arrival. This permit is obtained from the Ankara Emniyet Müdürlüğü (Department of Security). The Office of Exchange Programs personnel will accompany you when you apply for a residence permit during orientation weeks.

Orientation/introduction

The International Student Office offers an extensive orientation programme at the start of the semester. This includes a campus tour, excursions in Ankara, sports events and workshops on Turkish culture.
