Thesisweek, working on laptop

Many students find their thesis study to be a real challenge. You are mostly left to your own devices and it can be difficult to get started and to stay motivated.

Would you like to spend a week (5 days) with other students working on your thesis study? Would you like some extra structure in your day and in your thoughts? Are you interested in tips, coaching and workshops that will help you write a better thesis faster? If so, you’ll definitely want to check out Thesis week.

The next Thesis Week will take place from 9 March 2020 until 13 March 2020. Until then you can always make a free appointment with one of our writing or study tutors instead.

You’re either just starting your thesis or you’ve been working on your (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) thesis study for a while. It doesn’t matter what academic programme you’re in.

For one week, you will be working on your thesis under our supervision from 8.30 a.m. until 5 p.m. This will help you establish a working schedule, put a real dent in your workload and introduce you to lots of students who, like you, are writing their theses.

We can’t offer knowledge specific to your field of study, but we will share our expertise in workshops on:

  • Finding and critically analysing relevant literature and sources
  • Stress-free writing: how to plan
  • Mindfulness
  • Dealing with your supervisor
  • Your writing process
  • Structuring your text

Skills Lab Writing Centre coaches will be present to help you with the structure of your text, your planning, your study design and any other thesis-related questions you might have.

You’ll start each day with some breakfast in the Skills Lab Writing Centre. After that, there will be a short, plenary workshop session. In the afternoons, we’ll organise different (optional) in-depth workshops. Between these group activities, you will work on your own thesis or talk to a coach about your writing (process). Tea and coffee will be available all day long. At the end of the day on Friday, we’ll close out the week with drinks.
