Requirements

Language requirement: a minimum language level of B1 (CEFR) in English is required.
The International Office (UU Humanities) recommends a B2 level at the moment of exchange in order to fully participate in the courses.

The Université Lumière Lyon 2 is a French-speaking institution. At this time, they do not require any official certificate of French level for exchange students, however incoming exchange students must be sufficiently proficient in French to be able to follow classes and complete coursework. Very few courses are offered in English.

During the online application, students will be able to register for a French course :

  • The FEMI is a semester-long French language and methodology course created to help students participating in an exchange program to improve their French-language skills and to learn French academic methodology which will help them be successful in their coursework. This course is free of charge.
  • The pre-semester intensive French-language learning program Stage PRUNe, is open to students having a minimum B1 to C2 level of French.

It will not be possible to enrol for the French language courses after the end of the application period for students. For more information, please visit the CIEF website

Areas of study open to exchange students

Arts and Humanities 

Exchange students are free to choose any course they want from any regular undergraduate program (L1 to L3) and first-year master’s program classes (M1) for MA students. Students may not enrol in professionalizing undergraduate programme classes (L2 & L3 pro), university technical degree programme classes (DUT), in second year master’s classes (M2) or in DU programme classes.
