Semester I (Winter semester): approximately October - February
Semester II (Summer semester): approximately April – July
Language requirement: a minimum language level of B1 (CEFR) in German is required.
The International Office (UU Humanities) recommends a B2 level at the moment of exchange in order to fully participate in the courses.
Students can either take courses in History (BA/MA), Film Studies (BA), Comparative Literature (BA/MA), or Foreign Language and Culture: i.e. Dutch Philology or German Philogy (BA), Master European Languages (MA).
Students studying German Language and Culture at Utrecht University, please note the following: when choosing Foreign language and culture: in Berlin you will be enrolled at the Dutch Philology Department as main subject and you may choose German Philology as minor subject.

Most courses at the Freie Universität Berlin are taught in German. If you are not studying at the Department of English Philology or North American Studies, courses in English are very limited.
If you are accepted as an exchange student by Freie Universität Berlin, you can use the Accommodation Service of FUB.
Your living costs mainly depend, of course, on your personal requirements and habits. You should count on spending a minimum of 600 to 700 Euro (rental fees, grocery, leisure time etc.).
