Veterinary study associations
The faculty of Veterinary Medicine has a rich number of study associations.
The Diergeneeskundige Studenten Kring (D.S.K.) is the main study association for veterinary students at Utrecht University. Practically every student that decides to start studying at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, starts off with signing up as a member of the Diergeneeskundige Studenten Kring.
The association's purpose is to make students feel welcome at the faculty and create togetherness. Therefore, there is a wide range of activities that are being organized on a yearly basis. These activities consist of lectures, workshops, first-year introductions and parents' days, but also parties, excursions, sports activities and even a yearly horse race in which students participate to celebrate the association's 'Dies Natalis' (birthday). If you are interested to know more about the D.S.K., you can visit our Instagram and Facebook, or our website.
The International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) is the largest global veterinary study association. Ever since its beginning in 1951, IVSA has become active in over 70 countries and now counts over 35.000 members.
The Netherlands only has one faculty of veterinary medicine. Which means that the local Member Organisation (MO) is automatically also the national MO.Together we work to create international opportunities for our members, organise exchanges and internships. Archaeopteryx is the veterinary study association for everyone who is interested in birds and exotic animals. As an association, we want to spread information about exotic animal species and thus contribute to the professionalization of (future) veterinarians.
To attain this goal, we organize lectures, workshops, symposia and excursions. Due to the great diversity in animal species, five working groups have been set up within Archeopteryx, each of which focuses on a different category of animals. In addition, we have multiple committees that take on the larger projects that transcend workgroups. Everyone can visit our activities and if you are interested, you can join a working group or committee (or several!) and help organize activities. The Veterinaire Vee Fokkers Club (V.V.F.C.) “De Uithof” is the study association for veterinary students that focusses on the livestock sector. Throughout the year we organize lots of lectures, excursions, workshops, a symposium and a trade fair, all targeting current and relevant themes around livestock.
Besides the educational side of our association, we arrange parties and drink lots of coffee or tea in between studying, ‘gezelligheid’ is of great importance. If you want to know more about our committees, the association’s animals or if you are interested in what we exactly do, visit our socials or come visit our room at the Androclus building!
We, the Veterinaire Studenten Rijvereniging “De Solleysel”, are the veterinary student association that provide riding lessons for students of Veterinary Medicine. In addition to the riding lessons, we also take care of the horses used for educational purposes and organize a lot of other activities of educational and social character.
“De Solleysel” is an association for and by veterinary students. The board consists of five students who put their studies on hold for a year to manage the association. Enthusiastic members can become part of one of our committees and thus contribute. Our committees organize various activities of an educational nature, such as lectures, workshops and courses that are an addition to the curriculum of the study of veterinary medicine. In addition, we also have committees that organize competitions with the horses, an equestrian camp that takes place every year and various social activities where students can come together in our beautiful Saloon.
