Courses & clinical rotations

To be able to follow courses or clinical rotations your faculty needs to have a partner agreement with the faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University. The procedure to get nominated for a spot is known at the International office of your home university.


Courses

The Veterinary Medicine programme (Bachelor's and Master's) is taught in Dutch, which means that there are limited opportunities for taking individual courses. If you are proficient in the language and would like to take a number of courses, you can look up the courses in the course catalogue. Check carefully whether the course is open to exchange students, when it is taught, what the exact content is and whether it matches your knowledge. Always contact the International Office to discuss the feasibility.

Clinical rotations 

Our faculty of Veterinary Medicine has three university clinics: the Companion Animals Clinic, Equine Clinic and Farm Animals Health Clinic. Participation in the clinical rotation programme is limited to students from universities with a partner agreement. For more information about the application procedure please contact the International Office of your home university. 

Department of Clinical Sciences

The Companion Animals Clinic and Equine combined form the department of Clinical Sciences. This department contains the following disciplines: Internal Medicine (Dermatology, Hematology, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology and Neurology), Internal Nursing Department, Surgery (Soft tissue, Orthopedics and Ophthalmology), Emergency and Critical Care and Birds and Special Animals. The supporting disciplines are Anesthesiology, Diagnostic Imaging and Anatomy. 

Course load 

Utrecht University uses ECTS credits (ECTS: European Credit Transfer System). A year consists of 60 EC and a semester, starting in September or February 30 EC . For one week you will get 1,5 EC which equals 42 hours of course work. So for following 10 weeks of clinical rotations you will get 15 EC.
