Graduate Honours Interdisciplinary Seminars

• The chance to work on societally relevant cases and theme

• Learn from and with experts from across the UU during interactive seminar activities, which include games, dialogues, or workshops

You can participate in GHIS in the first or second year of your Master’s degree programme. During the sessions and preparations, we expect a pro-active, curious and committed attitude. Since this programme runs alongside your Master's and takes place in the evenings, it's important to consider the following:

• Am I motivated?
• What can I contribute to the group?
• Can I manage it with my current study load?
• Am I open to learning from and alongside students from different disciplines?
• Can I balance the programme with my work/sports/social life?

Please collect the following documents before applying:

1. Motivation and assignment: Use this document to argue why you want to participate in GHIS, and complete the (small) assignment.
2. Study progress overview: We ask your Bachelor’s and Master’s course overview if applicable. We will not be looking at grades, but rather at what subjects you have completed. This will give us a good impression of your academic background, which is important to make our honours programmes as diverse as possible.
3. CV (max. 2 A4): Include a short description of your academic performance so far, extra-curricular activities and other valuable skills or life experiences. Please also specify your level of English.

Shortly after the deadline, you may be invited to a matching meeting after we check all applications for completeness and alignment with the programme. After all matching meetings, you will be informed by email whether you have been invited to participate in the programme. There are 80 available spots. 

During the debates in class I had to learn to connect my knowledge to that of other students and to throw my point out there. This is an important skill to have, but not a thing I learnt among my fellow degree students. I was also confronted with preconceptions other people have of me and my discipline and I had to learn to breach that gap.

The diversity of people leads to different dynamics every time. People from other countries and studies provide me with insights I never thought of myself, and open up fields of study I will not easily encounter otherwise. The teachers also help in achieving this; allowing me to learn things beyond my own discipline.
