Housing

Accommodation guarantee: At the Penryn Campus, the university is able to guarantee accommodation to students coming for one semester.

The campus in Exeter has a limited number of university-owned rooms available to students coming to study for one semester. These are allocated on a first come, first served basis on receipt of your completed application for your exchange programme. Exeter is a safe, student-friendly and cycle-friendly city, with good bus routes to the university, so you could also consider sourcing accommodation outside of the city centre, which is also likely to be less expensive.

For campus accommodation see here.

The Accommodation Office of the university keeps a database of available rooms in the private sector. This accommodation might be a bit cheaper.

Costs

Exeter estimates that the average student needs about £725 monthly to live. This is €925.

Scholarship

The University of Exeter is pleased to offer two Exeter Adventures scholarships in 2020/21 to students from University College Utrecht.

Orientation

Every year, Exeter University organizes a Welcome Week before the beginning of the semester, including some special activities for International Students. The content and purpose of these Weeks seem similar to UCU’s Introweek.

Situation

The university is has four campuses, two of which are in the city of Exeter and two of which are in smaller towns in Cornwall. Find out more here

Student life

In total the university has some 23,000 students.

With over 200 societies and 50 student-led sports clubs to choose from there really is something for everyone. From Baking to Longboarding, Theatre to Street Magic, the societies are the best way to make friends while pursuing a common hobby, or try out something you never thought you could do before! Find out more here

Student experiences

Previous exchange students praise the high academic quality and especially the business courses, for which Exeter is famous. The Arabic/Islamic Department gets a good review too. You’re advised to look for the small classes (max. 25 students) as these usually have the best level. Apart from that, the University knows many ‘societies’ that organize all kinds of activities for your free time. Due to the geographical location, you will be able to visit the nearby Dartmoor National park and several other cities, e.g. Bath, Bristol and London.
