Visiting Students
Information for visiting students
This information is intended for visiting students (contract students) who take one or more single courses at UCU, and who are not enrolled for the UCU Liberal Arts and Sciences programme, and who are also not on an official exchange programme.
If you are a Utrecht University degree student, you already have a UU student number. Otherwise, you will have been given a UU student number, to use during the time you are taking a course with us.
My Timetable
In MyTimetable you can check your course schedule. You can log in with your Solis-ID (student number) and Solis password. You can also find this time table online under Courses and Schedules.
Course attendance
Class attendance is mandatory at UCU. If you miss more than 25% of your class sessions, you will receive an F for the course. Please also see UCU's Academic Rules and Regulations.
Assessment
With your enrolment in the course, you are automatically enrolled for the course assessments, which take place in the regular course timeslot. Courses at UCU have multiple assessments. Each assessment never counts for more than 40% of your final course grade. UCU uses a letter grading system, from A-F on a 4.0 grading scale. Your teacher enters assessment grades directly in Osiris. Your final course grade is then calculated automatically. For further information please consult UCU's Academic Rules and Regulations.
Curriculum requests
UCU students are able to make use of several curriculum options, that they apply for using Osiris Case. As a visiting/contract student, this functionality is not available to you. However, you are able to make use of these facilities also, as outlined below.
Extension request
This procedure is used for requesting an extension of the final due date of papers or assignments. It only applies if the hand-in date is moved beyond the last day of the semester. Requests will only be granted (a) if submitted no later than the final day of the semester, AND (b) in case of extenuating circumstances. Please consult with your teacher, if you need an extension for your assignment. Please explain that as a visiting student you cannot use Osiris Case for this request.
Catch-up exam
Re-takes are not allowed at UCU. Students are able to make use of a catch-up exam only in the case of a missed exam. As a visiting student, you are not able to request a catch-up exam via Osiris Case. Therefore, in case you wish to make use of it, please contact your teacher before the exam, to let them know you are not able to take it. Please explain you wish to make use of a catch-up opportunity. Your teacher can advise on whether it is possible to make an individual arrangement with the teacher, or that you can make use of the centrally-organised catch-up opportunity, as described on the catch-up exam information page.
Course withdrawal
If you would like to withdraw from your course, please contact the UCU Registrar's Office. We will then de-enrol you from the course. If you withdraw from the course before the course has started, you are entitled to a refund of the external course fees (only for non-UU students), minus 25% administrative costs. After the course has started, no refunds are made.
Transcript of Records
If you are enrolled in a Utrecht University degree programme, your course results from UCU will be visible to you via Osiris Student. Please liaise with your home programme about the recognition of the UCU credits and grade obtained for your own programme.
If you are not a degree student at Utrecht University, we can provide you with a Transcript of Records, upon request. Please contact the Registrar's Office for this.
