Welcome to your Portfolio
The portfolio is a tool that helps you to get most out of your time at University College Utrecht through goal setting, reflection and enhanced personal development. In this document, the content, aim, your role and responsibility, and the portfolio in practice is described.
Content
Your portfolio contains core questions and short assignments which encourage you to take stock of milestones throughout your time at University College Utrecht. Some of these are reflective, as a way of tracking and understanding the progress already made, while others ask you to look at where you are heading, and how to prepare yourself for the challenges ahead. You are encouraged to think about your journey from many perspectives - particularly academic, societal and professional viewpoints - taking into account both curricular and extra- curricular activities.
Aim
The aim of building a portfolio is to develop skills, enhance self-awareness, and to help you practice conveying your reflections and goal-setting to others. It will also enable you to write a constructive, academic and personal self-reflection statement when you decide to apply for a UCU Honours certificate in your final semester.
Your responsibility
Your UCU portfolio is a highly personal document and you can customize it to reflect your own ambitions and style. For example, besides the core questions and assignments, you may add further text, documents, images or other attachments to document your progress. The individual nature of the portfolio also means that it is owned by you, that you are responsible for saving it throughout the semesters, and for completing it. The portfolio is an essential part of your education at University College Utrecht and you are encouraged to review and update it regularly, so that it captures your unique narrative.
In practice
Your tutor will be an essential partner in guiding you through your curriculum, and discussing the core questions and short assignments related to your portfolio with you. You are required to complete two forms each semester that are part of the portfolio:
- Midterm Academic Reflection Form (shared with your tutor), which focuses, among other things, on current academic performance, study methods, time management, and academic planning.
- Development Reflection Form - which has two sections:
A) Academic Development Reflection Section (shared with your tutor), which relates to academic skill development and learning habits.
B) Personal Development Reflection Section which asks to you to reflect on, for example, your societal engagement, building networks and planning.
When completed, your portfolio will be beneficial in personal ways, but also practically useful in taking your next steps after graduating. We wish you the best of luck.
