Lingnan University is an exchange destination for University College Utrecht students in Hong Kong, China.

Lingnan University is a liberal arts university and therefore interesting for a wide range of academic fields.

Language of instruction

Most courses are available in English except for Chinese, language, and translation courses, and therefore prior knowledge of Chinese is not required.

The following Introductory Language Courses are available subject to the number of interested students:  Chinese Language as a Second Language, Cantonese for International students, Japanese, and Korean.

Credit system

1 Lingnan credit is the equivalent of 2 ECTS. Courses are usually worth 3 credits = 6 ECTS, so students should take a minimum of 5 courses (6 courses is the maximum).

Grade system

Lingnan University uses the same letter grade system used at UCU.

Housing

Students are required to live on campus and share room with a non-exchange student during the entire period of study at Lingnan. All the rooms are on twin-sharing basis and are generally sex-segregated on each floor. Exchange students will live in a residence hall with Lingnan students.

The University does not operate any meal plan, mandatory or optional. There is a student cafeteria and a full service Chinese restaurant on campus that provides a variety of inexpensive meals. There are also many restaurants in the neighborhood off campus.

Costs

The accommodation fee at Lingnan is approximately HK$6,035 (€665) per term. All exchange students are required to take care of the utility expenses, air-conditioning charges, at HK$330 (€36) per term. Lingnan requires all students to pay a deposit of HK$500 (€55).

Students must have appropriate and adequate insurance covering travel, personal accident, medical expenses (accident and non-accident), hospitalization and emergency evacuation / repatriation throughout the study period at Lingnan. Students are required to provide proof of coverage prior to arrival. 

To obtain a visa, you are required to pay an amount of HK$430 (€47), covering the non-refundable fee for student visa application (HK$190, €20) and the postage (around HK$240, €26) by bank draft or credit card. 

Orientation

There is a compulsory orientation for international students, as well as a buddy program to promote cross-cultural exchange and internationalization within the university community.
