Learning in the workplace Teacher Degree
To experience in practice what it is like to be a teacher, you will do an internship or work at a school or schools for secondary education. You do this through two courses: Professional in Praktijk 1a and 1b and Professional in Praktijk 2.
Professional in Praktijk 1a / 1b
Through PiP1a and PiP1b you will gain experience with teaching at a school. You will exchange experiences during your classes at the university and learn how to develop yourself and grow as a teacher. The major part of the course takes place at your school. During this course, you will teach in the lower years (Dutch: vmbo, onderbouw havo/vwo).
There is an exception for the school subjects philosophy, computer science, chemistry, art history and Spanish because these subjects are less taught in the lower forms. Combination of lower and upper years is possible.
Professional in Praktijk 2
During Professional in Praktijk 2 (PiP2) you will independently teach (a) fixed class(es) at upper years (Dutch: bovenbouw havo/vwo). PiP2 forms the basis for your first-degree teaching qualification. The aim of this internship is for you to become a qualified first-degree teacher.
