Graduation

To graduate, you must meet all the requirements of the examination syllabus (of both years in the Master’s programme). The requirements can be found in the Education and Examination Regulations (EER).

Cum laude

The result of your programme can be qualified with the distinction 'with honours' (cum laude) if you satisfy certain requirements. Please check the Education and Examination Regulations (art. 6.2) for the cum laude requirements.

Keep an eye on Osiris-Student after obtaining your latest results. If a result has not yet been registered in Osiris after ten working days, please contact the teacher who should submit the result.

Please contact the Student Desk Faculty of Science (STIP) if the result of a course or of the thesis is under the heading ‘Results - Other (these results are not part of this examination syllabus)’. As long as that result is there, the study programme progress overview will not be correct and you will not be included in the selection of students to receive the graduation message.

An incomplete examination portfolio will not be taken into consideration and leads to postponement of your graduation. This may also lead to having to pay an additional month of tuition fees!

No graduation mail?

If you have not received a graduation mail by 01:00 pm on the last working day of the month and you think that you should be allowed to graduate, you should contact the Graduation Office via examenbureau.gst@uu.nl. Please make sure to do so before 04:00 pm, so the email can still be processed.

After the graduation form has been processed, the Graduation Office will send you a confirmation mail. In Osiris Case you will find your examination date and the date of the graduation ceremony (or the date on which you can collect your diploma).

After the GST Graduation Office, on behalf of the Board of Examiners, determines that you meet all examination requirements, your final examination date will be set on the last working day of the same month. This date is also listed on your diploma.

You can pick up your diploma documents at the STIP office in the Martinus J. Langeveld building. Be sure to bring valid identification with you! Check the current opening hours of STIP in advance.

Authorize someone else

If you authorize a person to obtain the diploma because you are unable to obtain it yourself, please complete the authorisation form (pdf), add a copy of your ID and send this to the STIP (stip.gst@uu.nl). The attorney who receives the diploma must also be able to legitimize himself.

If you graduated between September and May, you should terminate your enrolment as a student of Utrecht University in Studielink. Do this before the end of the month in order to get your tuition fees refunded. You cannot terminate your enrolment retroactively. 

Please note! Make sure to terminate your enrolment after receiving your graduation mail from the Graduation Office (see Step 2). It's not necessary to wait for the subsequent confirmation mail from the Graduation Office (which contains your examination date). 

If you graduate in the months June, July or August, you do not have to terminate your enrolment; your enrolment will be terminated automatically. Please note that tuition fees will not be refunded if you terminate enrolment on 1 July or 1 August.

You must cancel your student grant and travel card yourself via the DUO website. See Termination of your studies for more information about canceling your student and travel card. 

If you graduate at the beginning of the month and (urgently) need a declaration of graduation, you can request one in OSIRIS Case. Please log in OSIRIS Student and go to tab ‘Cases’, select ‘My cases’. Select the button ‘Start case’ and start the case ‘FSBS & GST - Request declaration of graduation’. The Graduation Office will then generate a declaration of graduation as soon as possible.
