The SEC programme has two specialization tracks. The track Research and Development teaches you all about science communication and education without the final aim of becoming a teacher in secondary education. The track Teacher Degree will prepare you for a job as a first-degree science and/or mathematics teacher.

Track Teacher Degree
Year 1
In this year you will take a course in subject teaching methodology, focusing on how to transfer your knowledge to your students. Other courses deal with general teaching methodology, teaching design, issues & theories, research methods, and science communication. In addition, you will practice your teaching in a school internship.
Year 2
In the second year, you will take a second course in subject teaching methodology, a second course in teaching methology and a second school internship. In addition, you will write a research proposal and conduct a research project in which you will use the knowledge gained in the programme to investigate new issues.
Track Research and Development
Year 1
In the first year, you do the internship product development (at an organization related to science communication) and the product evaluation and advice internship. In addition, you will enter the field of research through the courses Research Methods and Research Proposal, and take a number of compulsory courses.
Year 2
The second year you take several electives and the Professional Skills and Identity course. But the main focus of the year is the research project, in which you use the knowledge gained in the programme to investigate new issues. A mandatory part of the research project are the supervised student seminars, held biweekly.
