Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT for short, offers an approach to building mental resilience and improving your well-being during your student life. You can think of it as a form of yoga for your brain: it helps you deal with challenges more flexibly, become more emotionally balanced and make conscious choices that align with your values. This workshop focuses on the question, "How can I live a valuable life despite setbacks?" You will experience how it is to no longer see painful emotions as unwelcome disruptors of your happiness, but as valuable sources of information (acceptance). And by exploring what your values are and how you can apply them in daily practice, you work step by step towards a life that fits who you are (commitment).
I now know a little better how to improve my situation. Because I think about my problems less catastrophically and anxiously, I manage to tackle them from a calmer perspective.
Structure of the workshop
- Yoga for your brain (Introduction to ACT).
- Your emotions as an ally (Acceptance)
- You are not your thoughts (Defusion)
- The story you tell yourself (Self-as-context)
- What matters to you? (Values)
- Putting words into action (Committed action)
- Return meeting: how did it go?
