Illness

You may be delayed in your studies due to physical or psychological illness. In this case, it is important for your studies to keep track of how long you are out of circulation and to inform your study advisor. Depending on your situation, you may be entitled to various facilities and (financial) support.

What are my options?

Depending on your circumstances, various forms of guidance or support are available, including:

  • Adjustment of your study planning;
  • Application for education and testing facilities (e.g. extra guidance);
  • Contact with a student counsellor or student psychologist;
  • Temporary deregistration from your studies.

Whom to contact

Contact your student advisor

If you expect to be unable to study for a month or more because of your situation, contact your programme's study advisor as soon as possible. You have an obligation to report to the study advisor if the delay will last longer than three months. The student advisor can help you think about how to limit the study delay and what support might be available within the university, e.g. through adjustments to your study programme. The student advisor can refer you to a student counsellor or a student psychologist if necessary or desired.
