Elite sports

Do you combine elite sport with your studies? At Utrecht University, you can count on special support. This page explains whether you are eligible and what these provisions entail. Also, read the elite sports policy for a detailed explanation.

What provisions are available?

  • Faculty provisions, such as schedule adjustments
  • Financial provisions, such as compensation for study delays
  • In-kind provisions, such as an elite sports certificate upon graduation

How do I qualify?

You can only qualify for the provisions at Utrecht University if you have an officially recognised status. Your status must also be registered with Utrecht University before you can use any provisions. Be sure to register well before starting your studies.

How do I register as an elite athlete?

To register, first make an appointment with the student dean for elite athletes. You can do this via Studentenservice. The student dean:

  • Verifies your status and determines if you are eligible for provisions
  • Informs you about all the possibilities (or limitations) of the elite sports policy
  • Notifies your programme about your status
  • Acts as a contact person if you have issues with your programme

Annual renewal

If you are using elite sports provisions, you must apply for renewal every year. This can be done directly with Eva Beeftink and Anne Oonk via email: elitesports@uu.nl. No appointment is necessary for this.
