Studying Without Limitations
Studying Without Limitations (SWL) is a platform by and for students with a disability. We can help you by sharing our experiences and supporting you so that you can better cope with the additional challenges your studies bring with them.
What is a disability?
A disability is a chronic condition that can hinder your education. That is the definition Utrecht University uses. You are also welcome to our platform if you experience temporary conditions, if you’re interested in helping students with a disability, or if you want to learn more about us. For examples of a disability, you can look at the main page studying with a disability.
What can we do for you?
Attending lectures, giving presentations, or taking exams: they are activities that do not go without saying for everyone. Sometimes, you might need some help with them. On top of that, it can be difficult to be open about your disability. Here are some things we can help you with:
- Who can I contact if I have a disability?
- What facilities are available for students with a disability?
- How do I handle my disability when it comes to housing, work, or student life?
We want to help students with a disability with tips and information about how they can complete their studies with as few restrictions as possible. Two times per year Studying Without Limitations releases a newsletter with all the newest relevant information about studying with a limitation at the UU. Do you also want to receive the newsletter? Buddy Programme
Sometimes, it can feel like a big step to ask for help. This is why we created the buddy programme by and for students with a disability. Do you want a listening ear, or someone to go over your plans or study with? Then a buddy might be something for you. This is what you can expect:
- You will be matched with a volunteer student, often someone who has experience with studying with a disability;
- Your buddy will guide you in the university and can help you choose who to go to with which problem;
- You can talk about everything with your buddy; from personal obstacles you encounter to sharing experiences;
Important: Generally speaking, you will not be matched with a buddy from the same study programme, and thus they will not be able to help you with the specific content of your studies.
