Queer information

Utrecht University wants every student to feel at home. On this page, you will find information about queer-related topics. This includes practical guidance, such as how to change your name, details of inclusive spaces, and advice on how to be an ally to other queer students.

An inclusive study environment is everyone’s responsibility.

How does UU support you?

Are you facing challenges and would like to talk to someone? For example, are you transitioning during your studies and want to know what support is available? Or have you experienced something unpleasant and need someone you can trust? The University offers several places where you can find support.

Where can I turn to?

Updating your personal details

It is important that you are registered and addressed correctly. Work is in progress to make it possible for you to indicate your preferred personal pronouns directly in Osiris.

Queer student association

As a queer student, it can be valuable to connect with other queer students. U.H.S.V. Anteros is the Utrecht student association for LGBTQIA+ students. Visit their website to learn more or to join.

Queer-inclusive education and research

EDI calendar

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion calendar contains an extensive list of commemorative and festive days, ranging from religious holidays to national days of remembrance. It also highlights queer topics such as Pride and the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

How can I be an ally?

An ally is a supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community. This means that, even if someone is not LGBTQIA+ themselves, they support the principle that everyone has the right to recognition, acceptance and protection. Allies recognise the value of diversity in sex, gender identity and sexual orientation, and actively contribute to ending discrimination.
