Academic calendar | There may be a semester overlap at the end of January if you wish to study here in semester 2. Semester I: End of August - End of December Orientation generally commences the last week of August for Semester I and the 2nd week of January for Semester II. Exams take place late October and late December for Semester I and early March and early May for Semester II. |

Erasmus students are required to choose the majority of your courses from one faculty. You can be only accepted by the Faculty closest to your educational background. Also note that you need to have sufficient prior academic background in the disciplines taught. |

Housing assistance | For the students wanting to live in a student dormitory, University of Helsinki has agreed with housing providers, including Unihome and HOAS (Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region), on a number of rooms for incoming exchange students. Apartments are located around Helsinki. Students should choose their housing option based on their budget and their wishes. Exchange students submit their housing application as a part of their exchange application. Their information will be forwarded to housing providers. Each exchange student will receive one housing offer. Information about various other housing options is available here |
Estimated living costs per month | The monthly living costs for a student in Helsinki for basics such as food, rent and transportation are on average 900-1250 EUR depending on lifestyle. |
Credits | Normal study load per semester: in credits: 30 ECTS (each course is worth 5 credits so on average a total of 6 courses per semester) |
Number of places available | 15 places per year Maximum of 4 places per faculty. Especially Social Sciences and Humanities are popular. |
Selection | Selection was generally not necessary in the past few years, although social sciences is quite popular and may require some selection. |
