Academic calendar

Semester I: 2nd Week of February - end of June
Semester II: 3rd Week of July - end of November

Orientation week commences generally mid-February for semester I and mid-July for semester II.

Exams take place the first two weeks of June for semester I and the first two weeks of November for semester II.

Requirements

GPA (Average Grade)

The GPA requirement at this university is 4.0. This is comparable to an average grade 7 or above at Utrecht University.
You must meet the GPA requirement at the moment of application at Utrecht University (1st of December)

English Language Requirement

A grade of 8 or higher in final year English VWO or
An IELTS, TOEFL iBT* or Cambridge test

Students enrolled in a fully English taught Bachelor or Master programme (for example UCU), can provide a letter attesting to the fact that their degree is taught and assessed entirely in English. 
The language requirements must be met at the moment of application to the host university.

Areas of study open to exchange students

Restrictions:

  • Courses offered by the ANU Medical School are not available.

  • Art studio, music, and design courses are limited.

  • Law courses are only available to students who are enrolled in a law degree at their home institution.

Courses at Master’s level

The ANU graduate exchange places may only be negotiated on a case-by-case basis and are subject to the availability of exchange places. The ANU's School of Medicine, the Crawford School of Economics and Government (College of Asia and the Pacific) and the College of Business and Economics do not offer exchange places for graduate students.

Housing assistance

ANU offers a broad range of accommodation including both residences with a meal plan and residences without a meal plan. Costs range from 288 AUD to 590 AUD per week, and housing is guaranteed on campus if applied for on time.

Estimated living costs per month

The estimated living costs in Canberra range between AUD 2,500 and 3,000 per month. You can calculate a personalized estimate based on your lifestyle preferences using this tool. For a semester exchange, including travel and general expenses, a budget of approximately EUR 15,000 is considered realistic. This estimate is based on the experiences and budgets of exchange students from previous years and includes UU tuition fees. Please note that the Australian visa fee has recently increased to around EUR 1100. Keep in mind that currency exchange rates may vary.
