NL Scholarship
The NL Scholarship is a grant from Dutch universities and from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The grant is intended for students who want to study, do an internship or conduct research outside the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the EU and Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway.
Am I eligible for the NL Scholarship?
You are eligible for the NL Scholarship if you study at Utrecht University and if you:
- Are going to one of the following strategic partners of Utrecht University for study, research or an internship: Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Sydney and University of Toronto.
- Are going to non-EEA (non-Erasmus, or SEMP for Switzerland) partner destinations.
The grants will be raffled among the students who meet the application criteria. The grant consists of a one-off amount of € 2,500 and is a contribution to your study costs.
What are the application criteria for this grant?
- You are following a full-time bachelor's or master's programme at Utrecht University.
- You will go to one of the above-mentioned partners for at least 7 weeks and 10 ECTS in the academic year 2025-2026.
- Your study or research will take place in a country that you do not come from yourself.
- You have suffered little or no study delay and the courses you will follow will count towards your bachelor's or master's programme.
- You have an average study progress of at least 52.5 credits per year. The International Office will check this average on 1 February 2025. Grades from block 4 (2025) will not be included in the calculation.

How do I apply for this grant?
The application process for the NL Scholarship 2024-2025 is closed and all applicants have been notified of the outcome. The process and the associated dates for 2025-2026 will be published here as soon as they are known.
