Zen Activities

Of course, you can start your day by snoozing the alarm six times, throw down a cup of coffee while you brush your teeth and racing to your tutorial. At least you'll be awake when class starts. But it's doubtful that this is the best way to start your day. 

The Well-Being Week coud be a good moment to try to start your day 'zen'. Zen is an Eastern method to unwind and be yourself through meditation and friendly attention to yourself. It's some kind of mental gymnastics which helps you stop thinking and stressing about things for a second and to just be present in the moment. Every student needs that from time to time and every student can at least profit from a stress-free morning: a good start of your day will make you feel better for the rest of the day. That's why we start the day at Utrecht Science Park each morning with body, mind and soul exercises. Monday morning we even commence the week with a yogakick-off in the Janskerk: you don't want to miss this!

Wellbeing Week Agenda

 

 

To open the wellbeing week we would like to bring the sun salutation to as many students as possible. The sun salutation is a well-known yoga exercise in which traditionally, a morning greeting is made to the sun that brings its energy to the earth. Let that be a good starting point for a week in which you consciously deal with your energy and well-being. After the joint sun salutation you are welcome to attend the subsequent yoga class.

Yoga means unity, a balance between body and mind, one consciousness. Through dynamic and static exercises we seek a balance between tension and relaxation, strength and flexibility, wanting and being able. During class, attention is focused on attention and concentration on what you do the moment you do it. You are introduced to breath control which gives an introduction to meditation, if the breath is silent then the mind is silent. Yoga is connecting your own personal path and bringing it into harmony with the world around you.

In the ''Silent Star Tower'' you leave the hustle and bustle and everyday stimuli behind for a moment. After this break you can recharge your day and continue energetically.

Tai Chi in the Botanical Gardens will recharge you and give you energy for the rest of the day! Everyone can participate in this lesson because the exercises are simple. They consist of gentle movements that you adjust to your breathing. You can participate in your normal clothes.

A morning greeting to your body and mind to start the day well. Because a good start is half the battle!
You learn to dwell on yourself instead of always being on your way. You learn to give loving and open attention to exactly where you are and how you are in this moment. You learn to allow relaxation, so that you begin to rest in yourself.

During these mornings we do body and consciousness exercises, breathing techniques and visualisations.
All students are cordially invited from Tuesday 7 May to Friday 10 May for this welcoming good morning gesture to themselves.

Introduction into mindfulness. In this workshop you will get to know mindfulness as a way to train your attention with the purpose of being more present and less lost in thought, which can cause unease or stress. We will introduce theory, practical application and present you with some examples of mindfulness exercises.
