Utrecht University reserves a limited number of rooms and studios with student housing corporation SSH Short Stay. Because the number of SSH housing is limited and very popular, anticipate that you might not be able to book this way. So also explore other housing options before booking opens!

Who can apply

In order to apply you need to be eligible for the Reserved Accommodation Programme. SSH Short Stay housing is available for Erasmus and Exchange students and new international non-Dutch students who enrol in the first year of an English taught degree programme.

When to apply

Before you are able to book accommodation with SSH Short Stay you need an approved registration. Registration with SSH Short Stay housing is possible from Tuesday 23 October 2018 onwards. When you filled out the SSH Short Stay registration form (free of charge), your faculty of studies will check if you are indeed eligible for the Reserved Accommodation Programme per February 2019, and if your registered information is complete and correct. If your registration is approved you can submit a reservation request when booking opens on Tuesday 30 October 2018 9.00 AM Central European Time (CET). It is possible to reserve accommodation prior to your formal admission.

Registration for students who enrol per February 2019 opens 23 October 2018. If you register with SSH prior to this date by selecting another resident type, school or semester, this will delay your housing registration and decrease your chances of succesfully booking accommodation.

How do I increase my chances of booking SSH Short Stay accommodation?

The accommodation is rented out on a first come, first served basis. Once registration and booking opens you are advised not to postpone this to a later time. It is very important that you register only once and for the correct department/ faculty and resident type. If your registration is incorrect do not register again but log into your account and change the registration. It is also important that you do not register for a different semester or school. All of this will delay your housing registration and will decrease your chances of successfully booking accommodation once booking opens. Also take into account that the servers will be busy when booking opens. Still, even if you keep to the dates and registered correctly, there is a chance that you will not be able to book a room. Take this in mind and also explore alternative options beforehand.

What payments do I make when I reserve accommodation with SSH Short Stay?

Registration with SSH Short Stay is free of charge. Only when you reserve SSH Short Stay accommodation you need to make all the payments to complete your booking in time. You pay the first and last month's rent as a down payment, as well as the a non-refundable reservation fee of 75 euros and a one-off cleaning fee to SSH.

Do I receive a refund if I cancel my reservation with SSH Short Stay?

The down payment is only partially refundable, and only when you are not accepted by Utrecht University to the programme you have applied for. The SSH reservation fee is non-refundable. You can find more information about the cancellation policy in the Terms and Conditions that apply to the rental contract via this link to the SSH Website.

Can I rent SSH Short Stay accommodation for longer or shorter?

This is not possible. SSH Short Stay accommodation is only available for fixed rental periods and only for the first year of studies. If you are looking for accommodation for a shorter time frame, for example because you are planning to conduct research or do an internship abroad, it is not possible to book this accommodation.

Does SSH Short Stay offer accommodation to couples or families?

SSH Short Stay does not offer accommodation for students who bring their spouse, partner or family. If you are looking for accommodation that is suitable for a family, please read our tips and tricks that can help you find accommodation on your own.

What if I am not able to book via the Reserved Accommodation Programme?
