Student Government and participation
Throughout the UU, students and staff contribute their thoughts on educational matters to the decision-making bodies. Would you like to join them? Then become a member of one of our employee participation bodies. You will gain experience in thinking about changes and improvements in a large organization. Later in your career it can be very beneficial if you can include board or committee experience in your resume.
There are various employee participation bodies:
- Education Committee (OC)
In the education committee you are engaged in the quality of education. - Faculty Council
The faculty council discusses the faculty policies in the areas of education, research, finance, personnel & organization with the faculty board. - The Board of Education Directors
The Board of Education Directors discusses education matters and developments within the faculty. - The University Council
In the University Council you discuss the central university policies in the areas of education, research, finance, personnel & organization with the UU Executive Board.
Regulations regarding administrative grants for Science
Weekly time investment (Dutch)
Each year, the dean determines the weekly time investment for administrative grants for students involved in administrative and representative activities. See the proposal for 2025-2026 in the table and explanation below (all in Dutch). The time investment for the student board member and for the student section of the Faculty Council correspond to the adjusted basic agreements established by the Board of Executives (CvB). The time investment for student members of the BKO/SKO is new since the 2024-2025 academic year. Once the time investment has been determined by the dean, the relevant students can apply for the allowances.

NB: uitbetaling van de bestuursbeurzen vraagt om minimaal 80% aanwezigheid
Studenten die aan meerdere raden deelnemen krijgen de vergoeding voor beide raden, tenzij dit onderdeel is van een andere functie, zoals FR en DAC. Vergoedingen van bovengenoemde taken worden uit één centraal budget betaald. Aanstellingen van de departementale studentbestuursleden worden gefinancierd door het betreffende departement. De aanstelling van de facultaire assessor is ondergebracht bij Bestuurlijke Ondersteuning. Per departement zijn er departement-specifieke activiteiten, zoals o.a. SONS (N&S), SODI (ICS) en WOL (Wiskunde). Deze vergoedingen worden door het betreffende departement bepaald en betaald.
Toelichting bij de tijdsinvestering per taak
BT-Faculteit
Het studentbestuurslid van de faculteit (ook wel ‘assessor’ of ‘studentvertegenwoordiger’) genoemd, neemt deel aan het facultaire bestuursteam en adviseert het bestuur van de faculteit gevraagd en ongevraagd over allerhande zaken die betrekking hebben op studenten van de faculteit. De student woont alle bestuursvergaderingen bij en daaraan gerelateerde overleggen. Daarnaast heeft het studentbestuurslid een sterk ‘netwerkende’ rol om studenten in andere bestuurlijke gremia of medezeggenschapsorganen op de hoogte te houden en geïnformeerd te blijven over wat er speelt binnen de faculteit. Het studentbestuurslid is een vast lid van de Board of Studies van de Undergraduate School. De voorgestelde omvang van de bestuurlijke activiteiten is 16 uur per week voor het facultaire bestuursteam.
BT-Departement
Het studentbestuurslid van het departement heeft een taak die vergelijkbaar is met het studentlid van het facultaire bestuursteam, maar dan op het niveau van het departement. De voorgestelde omvang is 8 uur per week.
Faculteitsraad
De Faculteitsraad is het wettelijk (cf WHW) medezeggenschapsorgaan voor studenten en personeel. Een student die vanuit diens departement gekozen is in de FR is ook lid van de DAC. De voorgestelde omvang van de taken is in totaal 8 uur per week. De taken van FR en DAC liggen in elkaars verlengde (alleen de FR-taak wordt vergoed).
Departementsadviescommissie (DAC)
In elk departement is een overlegorgaan dat het departementale bestuursteam gevraagd en ongevraagd adviseert en als klankbord fungeert voor leden in de faculteitsraad. De voorgestelde omvang van taken is vastgesteld op 2 uur per week voor de DAC. De richtlijn voor het aantal studenten dat in de DAC zit is vier.
Opleidingscommissie (OC)
Elke School kent een opleidingscommissie. De opleidingscommissie heeft als medezeggenschapsorgaan zowel instemmingsrechten als adviesrechten binnen de Schools. Studentleden maken tevens deel uit van de departementale OAC. De voorgestelde omvang van taken is 2 uur per week.
Opleidingsadviescommissie (OAC)
De opleidingsadviescommissie geeft advies over allerlei zaken omtrent het onderwijs binnen het departement, aan de opleidingsdirecteur. Elk departement heeft een OAC. De voorgestelde omvang van taken is 2 uur per week. NB: taken van OAC en OC tellen dus op.
Board of Studies (BoS)
De GSNS en School of Pharmacy kennen een Board of Studies waarin een studentlid deelneemt. De voorgestelde omvang van taken is 2 uur per week. De GSLS heeft dit ook maar zorgt via het UMCU voor de vergoeding.
BKO/SKO commissie
De Universitaire regeling Onderwijskwalificaties BKO/SKO (2021) schrijft voor dat de facultaire toetsingscommissies een adviserend studentlid hebben om het studentperspectief met betrekking tot de impact van docenten op studenten te bewaken. Binnen de faculteit Bètawetenschappen zijn twee facultaire toetsingscommissies actief, één voor Life Sciences met één studentlid en één voor Natural Sciences met twee studentleden. De voorgestelde omvang van taken is 2 uur per week.
Uitbetaling vergoeding
De universitaire regeling schrijft expliciet voor dat de vergoedingen maandelijks dienen te worden uitgekeerd. Binnen Bèta wordt dit standaard gehanteerd voor de studentleden van de Faculteitsraad. Voor andere rollen krijgen studenten actief de keuze voorgelegd tussen uitbetaling per maand gedurende de termijn, of eenmalig na afloop. Uitbetaling wordt geregeld met een declaratieformulier dat getekend wordt door de verantwoordelijke bestuurder (decaan, departementshoofd, opleidingsdirecteur) of voorzitter van het medezeggenschapsorgaan. Op deze manier wordt geborgd dat de gedeclareerde inspanning ook daadwerkelijk is gedaan. Uitbetaling van de bestuursbeurzen vraagt om minimaal 80% aanwezigheid.
