Become a Teaching Assistant

• MBLS Bachelor students: 2^nd year and up with at least 67,5 EC obtained, as well as passed the course you want to assist in.
• Other Bachelor students: 3^rd year and up with a relevant background in relation to the course you want to assist in.
• Master students: finished a relevant Bachelor’s programme and/or enrolled in a relevant Master’s programme in relation to the course you want to assist in.

There are no grade requirements to apply, but higher grades may help in getting appointed. Because we are an international programme, we allow students from any nationality to apply for a position. Note that applicants are not encouraged to work as a TA in favour of following a course, to prevent study delay. When you are hired you are expected to work the requested hours, so following a course in the same timeslot may turn out to be hard to do.

The main recruitment is through our application form. When it is updated for a new semester, the form will be sent around through mailing lists. It will be sent around repeatedly when more applicants are needed. Some teachers will also ask around themselves, especially for the lab practicals.

The tasks of a TA can vary based on the course you work for, but will mostly include one or more of these tasks:

• Preparing and teaching tutorials, including active guidance of students;
• (Pre-)grading assignments under the guidance of the course teacher(s);
• Exam surveillance;
• Preparing materials for the lab practicals;
• Guiding/teaching lab practicals;
• Grading lab journals and/or assignments under the guidance of the lab coordinator;
• Cleaning up at the end of a lab day.

TA appointments are per course: the hours depend on the needs of the course coordinator, and when the course ends so does your appointment. In some cases you can be asked to do some additional work for a course into the next period, but this will come with an extension of your contract and you will of course be compensated for those additional hours.
