Research Project (Thesis)

Also known as: thesis (project).

Everything you wanted to know about the Research Project and were afraid to ask.

Structure Research Project

At the final step of the master programme, the Data Science students are required to perform a Research Project that leads to a thesis. The project is done under the supervision of a faculty member, on a topic related to those of the programme.

The goal of the project is to make the students put into practice the knowledge they have acquired throughout the courses, deepen their knowledge in a specific area of Data Science, become able to position their work within the related research field, become able to work independently to find solutions to challenging problems, advance the research in some field of Data Science, and report the research findings professionally and scientifically.

When can I start?

We recommend you start looking for a Research Project as early as the end of period 4. You need to find a Research Project at the latest by the middle of period 1 or 2 of the second year.

It is not advisable to start very early to have the opportunity to get to know all the professors and their respective research groups. Many courses often host presentations and guest lectures from different groups to let students get acquainted with their respective topics of interest.
