Colloquium Research Project (INFOMCDASC)
Once Part 1 of the thesis has been completed, a colloquium needs to be held where students present what they learned during Research Project Part 1.
The aim of the colloquium is to train the students in presenting a research field, delivering presentations that disseminate knowledge and educate on a particular field.
Colloquium structure
The colloquium consists of a 30-minute presentation in the form of a tutorial on the general field of the topic of the Research Project. Each student is also required to listen to and provide an evaluation of at least 3 Colloquia. The colloquium gets evaluated with a mark from 0-10. Download a rubric on the meaning of the different grades here (PDF).
Presentation Structure
The presentation aims at introducing the audience to the thesis research area (what it is, why it is interesting, why it is challenging, etc.) and presenting the related works that have been done in it. Note that the related works presented in the colloquium do not require any additional research study since they are typically those surveyed in Part 1 of the thesis (but additional works may be included if deemed necessary). Furthermore, the presentation should highlight not only what has been done in the field, but the challenges of these works, as well as the open challenges that remain. It is important to note that the colloquium is about the research area of the thesis, and not about the specific research problem that the thesis will be about. The presentation is delivered prerecorded. The slides should be a product of the work of the student. If some material (e.g., some picture or some statement) needs to be included from research papers or other sources, the origin of the material needs to be explicitly referenced on the slide.
