Course registration and re-enrolment

The academic year has two semesters, each consisting of two periods. To be able to attend classes you need to register for the courses you would like to take in each period. Student Affairs registers all students for their courses in their first semester of the first year of the bachelor's programme.

After the first semester, you need to register for courses yourself online through Osiris-student. Your Solis-ID is your login code for this programme. Course registration is only possible during the registration periods.

The  Courseplanner is an online programme that can help you browse through the course catalogue, and plan your study efficiently. 

• Remember to check all activities included in the course.
• Check whether you meet the entry level requirements. If you do not meet the requirements the course coordinator will remove you from the list of participants.
• Make sure your courses do not show any overlap in the time slot model.
• Register on time. Some courses are popular and fill up quickly.
• If you wish to do electives at a different faculty, make timely enquiries about the registration periods and entry level requirements.
• You will receive information about your courses via your Solis-mail. Check your mail regularly!

If you have registered for a course that you do not wish to take, please deregister again through Osiris at your earliest convenience so as to open up a space for a fellow student. Your dossier will show an ND (not done), should you decide to quite a course halfway. This may affect your cum laude status.

Registering for a minor or elective course is done in much the same way as registration for normal courses. Please inform yourself early on during your study about the possibilities and study load. Courses fill up quickly and some minors take more than a year to complete. Utrecht University offers over 100 different minors across its various faculties. You are free to choose from any of them, regardless of your main programme.

You can re-enrol as of 1 June. Make sure to finalise your re-enrolment before 1 September! If you are not enrolled before 1 September you cannot participate in the courses and exams of the first period. The re-enrolment procedure may differ per situation. Read more about (Re)-enrolment.

Please note: It is only possible to enrol with a starting date of 1 September. There is one exception; if you’re starting a Master’s programme with an official starting date in February, then you may enrol as of 1 February. Other exceptions are only possible with the explicit permission of your department or Faculty.

You can cancel your enrolment (application) until the start of your study programme. When enrolling per 1 September, you can cancel until 31 August at the latest, or 31 January at the latest if you are enrolling per 1 February (a starting date that applies to some programmes). In either case, you will not be required to pay any tuition fees.
