Curriculum
The master’s programme Applied Data Science is a high-paced one-year programme (60 EC). Once you enrol in the programme, your one-year study plan will consist of:

The Applied Data Science master’s programme includes no tracks/profiles.
Mandatory elements
- Follow the mandatory colloquium series ADS Ethics and Practice Colloquium Series (1EC)
- Attend two foundational courses (15 EC in total):
By default, the two foundational courses are:
- Data Analysis and Machine learning (INFOMDAML, 7.5 EC)
- Data Wrangling (INFOMDW, 7.5 EC)
Students who already have a strong background in programming, data management and analytics, may be exceptionally offered by the programme coordination staff the opportunity to further shape their curriculum by choosing between INFOMDW and one of the following courses:
- Responsible AI & Data Ethics (INFOMDE, 7.5 EC)
- Data intensive systems (INFOMDIS, 7.5 EC)
Foundational courses are intended to ensure that all students acquire the essential knowledge and skills to follow electives.
NOTE on selection of two mandatory courses
The choice of the two mandatory courses must be conducted based on guidelines provided to students by the ADS management team prior to registration. In this way, the selected courses will address the prior background and current knowledge gaps of the students. Students do not need to take any action regarding the selection of 2 mandatory courses; full guidelines will be provided during the Introduction programme meeting by the ADS management team.
Electives
After you finished the mandatory courses, you have to select four electives (30 EC), two in each period, from the list of pre-approved elective courses. You can see the overview of which courses you can choose from below in the drop down.
NOTE on registration in elective courses
For elective courses, students will not register through Osiris. Students will be asked to use a Pre-Enrolment form. Details will be provided during the Introduction programme meeting by the ADS management team.
