Domestic violence or child abuse protocol

Do you suspect that a student, child or staff member is experiencing domestic violence or child abuse? You can report this. This includes suspected physical violence, as well as suspected psychological and sexual violence and neglect.

Assessment framework for children and students

  1. First, write down which signs you observed and what your suspicions are based upon.
  2. Get in touch with a student counsellor (studentcounsellors@uu.nl) or student psychologist (studentenpsychologen@uu.nl) to discuss the situation.
  3. Devise a plan of action together, and consider involving the Utrecht organisation for advice, help and support concerning domestic violence and child abuse, Veilig Thuis Utrecht (in Dutch). This can be done anonymously.
  4. Invite the student in order to discuss the matter.
  5. Is your suspicion of abuse or violence confirmed during the conversation with the student? Then you will look together with the student dean or the student psychologist whether the UU can offer help, or Veilig Thuis Utrecht can be called in.
