Wi-Fi on the go

Public Wi-Fi can be useful when you do not have mobile internet available or when your data bundle is limited. However, it is still possible that someone is watching you. This can lead to your login details and personal data being intercepted.

Connect securely

  • Use a VPN after connecting. This will set up a secure connection that no one can watch.
  • Be aware that someone in your vicinity can set up a fake 'free wi-fi point'. For example, at an airport you may see "Free airport Wi-Fi", but this could also be someone with a laptop next to you who is trying to lure people into a trap. Always check carefully what the real Wi-Fi network is called.
  • Make sure that automatically connect with known Wi-Fi networks is disabled. Someone can imitate an existing Wi-Fi network name, for example in public coffee shops or restaurants. Your phone recognizes the name and automatically connects to the network, without you realizing it, even if this is a fake Wi-Fi point.
