Payment method
Every year, you need to pay tuition fees. To process your payment, you must provide a digital authorisation via Studielink. On this page, you can read more about the tuition fee collection process.
When will the tuition fee be debited?
The tuition fee is always collected in one of the following weeks, depending on your registration date:
- Week 39 (Sep)
- Week 48 (Nov)
- Week 5 (Jan)
- Week 13 (Mar)
- Week 22 (May)
How can I pay the tuition fees?
The tuition fees are collected via direct debit. You can choose to pay in full or in five instalments.
How do I arrange a direct debit authorisation?
Check the Studielink step-by-step guide for digital direct debit authorisation. Please note! If someone else is paying your tuition fees, you will receive an email with instructions to forward to them. They must confirm the authorisation. Until this is completed, you will see the action "have digital authorisation confirmed" in My To Do List. You will receive a confirmation email once the authorisation has been processed.
Payment details remain valid
As of 1 October 2024 Utrecht University will make use of continuous payment details. This means that you will only need to enter your payment details once in Studielink for your enrolment for the 2025-2026 academic year. These payment details will remain valid for the remainder of your studies at Utrecht University (even if you transfer to another programme). For this transition, you will need to re-enter your payment details once more. You can still change these payment details.
Please note: If you have submitted a new enrolment request for the academic year 2024-2025 after 1 October 2024, you already make use of continuous payment details. You will not need to re-enter the payment details when you re-enrol.
How do I change my payment method or payment details?
You can change your payment details via Studielink throughout the year. The change will take effect from the next payment moment. This can also be in the new academic year, for example when you change your payment details after you have already paid the full tuition fees for the current academic year.
You can change the payment method:
- until September 11 (when registering as of September 1)
- until January 11 (when registering as of February 1)
