Online testing in period 4
The education and testing of period 4 will be offered online as much as possible, just as in period 3. Teachers and support staff are working hard to ensure that you can continue your studies in these exceptional times.
The period 4 exams, as in period 3, will be taken at a distance as much as possible. As far as possible, these will be tests in the form of open book exams, take home exams, essays or an oral exam. For a small number of courses, the examination will be a knowledge test, which cannot be converted into an alternative test. For these exams, your course can choose to use remote monitoring as a facility to limit study delay as much as possible.
Remote monitoring can be done in two ways:
- The examiner watches live via your webcam.
- Online Proctoring uses special software that not only watches via the camera, but also stores and analyses the video images for fraud detection. The program used at Utrecht University is a tested and proven system, where privacy is taken into account.
We know this is a tricky situation. We hope you understand that this will apply to a small number of tests. We intend to use online surveillance temporarily, as long as there is no possibility to take the tests at the university itself.
What happens if you are faced with a test that is subject to online supervision?
- You will be notified that it is an online surveillance test no later than two weeks before the test is to be taken.
- You will need: a well-functioning laptop with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. We advise you to take privacy into account when taking a test with online surveillance, such as shielding your BSN number when checking for ID and working in a relatively empty room.
If you have overriding objections to online surveillance, you can choose to take the test physically (at the university) at a later date. Because we currently do not know when this is possible, it may be that this will cause a study delay. Please inform your lecturer of this choice at least five working days prior to the test. Good to know: the choice for an exam on campus will never be at the expense of the number of resits.
