Winter weather update: Exams and lectures not on campus for the rest of this week

At Utrecht University, exams and classes will not be held on campus on Thursday, January 8, and Friday, January 9. Where possible, teaching will be offered online. The Executive Board has made this decision based on the ongoing problems with public transport, due to snow and slippery conditions, and in order to create calm and clarity for the rest of the week.

The national public transport situation remains vulnerable. Trains, buses, and trams are running on a limited basis or are canceled, making it difficult and unpredictable for students and staff to travel. As in recent days, the university is taking this into account in its decision-making in order to avoid unnecessary risks.

Teaching online where possible, with the exception of practical education

Utrecht University considers it important that education continues as much as possible, despite the problems with public transport due to the current weather conditions. Therefore, education on Thursday and Friday will be offered online as much as possible. The Executive Board wants to make an exception for practical education such as practicals, which can only be offered on location. The faculties will decide whether to make use of this exception. Students are asked to keep an eye on their digital study environment (Brightspace) for updates from lecturers. Employees should consult with their manager whether to work from home or on campus.

The university has not taken this decision lightly, but wants to provide clarity for the coming days. The Executive Board expresses its appreciation for everyone's flexibility and for the dedication of those who are keeping services running and who need to come to the university to do so.
